Iranian President addresses PKU

Peking University, June 9, 2012: Mahamoud Ahmadinejad, Iran’s President, paid a visit to Peking University (PKU) and addressed the Sino-Iran relations to the students on June 6, 2012. PKU Council Chairman Zhu Shanlu met with the Iranian delegation at Yingjie Overseas Exchange Center.

Zhu extended his welcome to President Ahmadinejad on behalf of PKU. In his welcome remarks, he said that both Iran and China were having a long history of civilization and exchange, and the two countries established the formal diplomatic relations back in 1971. “PKU set up the major of Persian Language early in 1957, and has developed the exchange and understanding with the University of Tehran ”, he pointed out, “I hope that both countries will make more contributions to world peace and human being”.

Talking about Sino-Iran relations, Ahmadinejad said, “Iran and China have been good friends through our thousands years of history, and now we are still supporting partners for each other. Both of us should disseminate knowledge, fairness, fraternity and freedom to make a better world”.

 

He showed his support to deepen the intellectual exchange between the University of Tehran and PKU, “I look forward to carrying out Chinese studies in Tehran and benefiting both nations”, he said.

 

 

Ahmadinejad receives a gift from PKU

 

Ahmadinejad arrived in China on Tuesday to attend the 12th Meeting of the Council of Heads of Member States of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), and will stay in Beijing until Saturday.

 

Background Info:

 

As one of the first Chinese institutions to offer courses of Persian language, culture and history, PKU established the major of Persian Language in 1957, and offered M.A. and Ph.D. programs in Persian Language and Culture, and Iranian History and Culture later. In 1991, PKU signed an institutional exchange agreement with the University of Tehran. The two universities have been operating student exchange programs and faculty exchange programs since then.
