Peking University, Oct. 23, 2012: Organized by the Center for Applied Physics and Technology (CAPT), Peking University and Key Laboratory of High Energy Density Physics Simulation (HEDPS), Ministry of Education, the International Conference on High Energy Density Physics was unveiled at Peking University (PKU) on Oct. 18. Over a hundred scholars from China, the United States, Britain, Germany, France, Japan, Italy, Spain and other countries gathered together to participate in the conference.
The conference aims at providing a forum for researchers who work on theories, simulations and experiments of high energy density physics (HEDP) to share their progresses, insights, and visions, and also for young scientists who are interested in this field.
The main topics of the conference include: Matter properties, especially of warm dense matters, under high energy density conditions; Atom molecular dynamics under intense laser; Energetic particle acceleration and atomic dynamics in high/intense field; Radiation hydrodynamics; High Mach number compressible turbulence and hydrodynamic instabilities; Numerical methods for HEDP simulations.
Professor He Xian-Tu , director of CAPT, serves as Chair of the conference. Professor Chen Shiyi from Peking University, Professor Zhang Jie from Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Professor Zhang Weiyan from China Academy of Engineering Physics are Co-Chairs.
At the opening ceremony, He, Chen, Zhang and Ji Peiwen from National Natural Science Foundation of China gave respective speeches, highlighting the importance of the event and hoping all scholars exchange their research progress on high energy density physics.
Delegates from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, National Natural Science Foundation, the Chinese Academy of Engineering Physics, Peking University, and other organizations will attend the 4-day event and carry out the academic discussion.
Background info:
CAPT is a research institute jointly organized by Peking University and the Chinese Academy of Engineering Physics, to mainly carry out research in the field of HEDP. The Center devotes itself to promoting cooperative research with the best research institutes in China, and to fostering young leading scientists with the spirits of innovation and dedication. With five years’ development, it has achieved many impressive outcomes, making a large number of fundamental research breakthroughs in fields of warm dense matter, strong field atomic ionization and strong-field particle acceleration, compressible high Mach Number fluid turbulence and fluid mechanics instability, and mathematical methods related to HEDP research.
In the past five years, CAPT has published altogether over 400 research papers (taking account of the papers of cooperation with other research centers) on domestic and international high-level journals, including Nature Physics, Nano Letters, PNAS, Phys. Rev. Lett. . Nearly half of the papers were published in academic journals with impact factor of over 2.5. Sixteen of the papers were published in Phys. Rev. Lett. .
