Peking University, May 4, 2012: Robert Zimmer, Professor and President of the University of Chicago (UChicago), visited Peking University (PKU) and signed two agreements on April 26. Professor Zhu Shanlu, Chairman of PKU Council, along with other PKU leaders, met with the UChicago delegation at Linhuxuan, PKU.

Founded in 1891, the University of Chicago is one of the top universities in U.S. and across the world. Zhu attached great significance to the relationship between PKU and UChicago at the ceremony, “Developing international collaborations is a key strategy for PKU and I hope both universities could join hands to promote our collaborations in wider areas, research and faculty/students exchange, for instance”. Two UChicago alumni were mentioned in the dialogue and they were Zhou Peiyuan, former PKU president, and Justin Yifu Lin, Chief Economist and Senior Vice President of the World Bank. Zhu also invited President Zimmer to give a keynote speech on the coming 2012 Beijing Forum.
President Zimmer accepted the invitation and hoped that both parties expand the cooperation in more fields. “The University of Chicago Center in Beijing was founded in 2010, which has proved to be a very successful base for UChicago faculty and students. I believe we will gain more through further collaboration”, he added.
After the meeting, two agreements on academic cooperation and undergraduate student exchange were signed by Chairman Zhu and President Zimmer.

Earlier the day, President Zimmer paid a visit to the Beijing International Center of Mathematical Research and the Stanford Center at PKU.
