Australian Education Minister Christopher Evans Visits PKU

Peking University, Nov. 7, 2010: On the morning of Nov. 1, Christopher Evans, Minister for Australian Tertiary Education, Jobs, Skills and Workplace Relations, visited Peking University (PKU). PKU President Zhou Qifeng and Vice Director of PKU Office of International Relations Xia Hongwei met the Australian guests in Linhuxuan, and they had a further discussion on education, economic and trade cooperation, and cultural exchange between China and Australia.

Prof. Zhou Qifeng gave a brief introduction about the history, subject setup, and international teaching level of PKU at first, and then had discussions on the Australia-China Dialogue Project as well as International Alliance of Research Universities (IARU), to which both PKU and Australian National University affiliated, with Minister Christopher Evans. Minister Evans expressed the hope that more and more students and teachers could further their studies, research, and cultural exchanges in Australia to consolidate and deepen the relationship between China and Australian. Talking about the language problem in cultural exchanges, he said that the multi-language teaching level was being improved in Australia and Chinese was becoming more and more popular. Both Prof. Zhou Qifeng and Minister Evans agreed on the importance of strengthening the educational exchange between Australian and Chinese students, looking forward to further cooperation.
