Peking University, Oct.21, 2011: Due to his reputation and academic contributions to the philosophy of science, Professor Mario Bunge from McGill University was invited to Peking University (PKU) to give lectures. On October 19, Professor Bunge with his wife attended the ceremony of donating academic works to the school’s library.

Students of Professor Mario Bunge and representatives of the library were also present at the ceremony. Professor Huang Nanping from the School of Marxism, PKU and Zhu Qiang, the curator of the library made addresses. Curator Zhu Qiang returned Professor Bunge with a copy of the library’s treasured thread-bound picture album of The Peach Blossom Fan to show appreciation.

Professor Mario Bunge was born on September 21, 1919 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He got Doctor’s degree in philosophy and mathematics at National University of La Plata in 1952. From 1956 to 1966, he first stayed as a professor of theoretical physics and philosophy and later worked at University of Buenos Aires. From then on, he has been the Frothingham Professor of logic and metaphysics at McGill University, Montreal, Canada. He has been distinguished with 16 honorary doctorates and 4 emeritus professorships in America and Europe. He is a member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (from 1984) and the Royal Society of Canada (from 1992). He was awarded the Premio Príncipe de Asturias of Spain in 1982 and the John Simon Guggenheim Fellowship in 2009.
As a prolific intellectual, Professor Bunge has written over 80 books and 400 articles, among which Treatise on Basic Philosophy in 8 volumes comprehensively and rigorously analyzes all aspects of philosophy including semantics, ontology, epistemology, philosophy of science and ethics and is the foundation of modern philosophy. He has developed a comprehensive and scientific perspective which is applied it to natural and social sciences.
