Peking University, Sept. 12, 2012: A delegation from Lomonosov Moscow State University (MSU), including 150 students and faculty members, visited Peking University (PKU) on August 25.

As a result of Vice Premier Li Keqiang’s visit to Russia in April, the Chinese Government invited the delegation to China for a 10-day visit, including the exchange activities at PKU. Earlier at Li’s meeting with the delegation on August 24, Jin Meiling, a student from the Department of Russian Language and Literature at PKU, gave a welcome speech.
During their visit to PKU, Associate Professor Chen Songyan from the School of Foreign Languages at PKU delivered a themed lecture on “The Historical and Cultural Traditions of Beijing” in Russian. He introduced the time-honored history and colorful culture of this city to MSU students, and was well responded.
PKU Vice President Li Yansong hosted a banqueted for the delegation. He expressed his welcome to the delegation, as well as his hope for a better understanding between the students of both sides through the visit. “Our friendship will further ground both Chinese and Russians in the future cooperation and development”, he said.
Afterwards, the delegation communicated with the students from the Department of Russian Language and Literature at PKU, and was shown around Arthur M. Sackler Museum of Art and Archaeology.

Lomonosov Moscow State University (MSU, previously known as Lomonosov University), is the oldest and largest university in Russia. Founded in 1755, the university was renamed in honor of its founder, Mikhail Lomonosov, in 1940.
Currently the university employs more than 4,000 academic staff and 15,000 other staff members. More than 40,000 undergraduates and 7,000 postgraduates are currently enrolled in the university, including around 2000 international.
11 Nobel laureates and 5 Fields Medal winners are affiliated with the university. It is the alma mater of many famous writers such as Anton Chekhov and Ivan Turgenev, politicians such as Mikhail Gorbachev or Mikhail Suslov, as well as some renowned mathematicians and physicists.
