Peking University, Nov. 12, 2013: Raúl Díez Canseco, the former Vice President of the Republic of Peru, together with Dr. Edward Roekaert, the President of Saint Ignatius of Loyola University (Universidad San Ignacio de Loyola), visited Peking University (PKU) on November 4th. They had a discussion with PKU Vice President Li Yansong on the cooperation between the two top universities of both countries.

President Edward Roekaert gave a brief introduction on St. Ignatius of Loyola University, especially on the bilingual education in Spanish and English. He expressed his willingness to develop a further cooperation relationship with China in education filed, “We believe that China will be a good cooperative partner for Peru.” said President Edward Roekaert.

As the founder of St. Ignatius of Loyola University, Mr. Díez Canseco hoped to encourage more Peruvian students to study in China. He expected to create more opportunities in promoting such communication and he also invited Chinese students to Peru for exchange and to experience the history and culture of the indigenous Americans.

During the meeting, Vice President Li Yansong introduced that PKU had been promoting the international bonds with universities of the Middle East, Africa and Latin America. He believed that PKU students were generally fond of Hispanic culture, which would be a good foundation for the cooperation with Peru.

Saint Ignatius of Loyola University (Universidad San Ignacio de Loyola or USIL) is a private university located in Lima, Peru. It was founded in 1995 by the former Peruvian Vice President Raúl Díez Canseco, who is also the owner of the university. USIL has a strong focus on entrepreneurship and hospitality management. There are proximately 15,000 students enrolled in USIL at present, including 10 students from China.
