Peking University, Nov. 12, 2013: PKU Sweden Day, the theme of which was “Study and Work in Sweden”, was recently held in Yingjie Overseas Exchange Center of Peking University (PKU). The activity was jointly held by Embassy of Sweden in China and Foreign Exchange Committee of Sweden, as well as co-organized by Sweden Returned Alumni Association and PKU.

Twelve Swedish universities, such as Uppsala University, Stockholm University, Lund University, and Royal Institute of Technology, along with eight international well-known enterprises including IKEA, H&M and Ericsson all set up booths and prepared exhibits for the PKU Sweden Day.

To begin with, Swedish ambassador to China Mr. Lars Peter Fredén made a greeting speech. Mr. Douglas Washburn form Foreign Exchange Committee of Sweden made the following speech named “Study in Sweden”. He briefly gave an overall introduction of Sweden. Then he focused on the advantages of Sweden on international education. Mr. Douglas Washburn pointed out that Sweden had nine universities ranking top 300, five ranking top 200 and three ranking top 100 in the world, according to statistics of several global universities ranking websites; In terms of per capita, Sweden ranked the second in the world among the countries which had top universities; Besides, Swedish universities attached great importance to the cultivation of creativity and critical thinking and supported students’ cooperation instead of competition, which could help produce team members favored by global market, with the ability of prospective thinking, and great foresight. At last, he warmly welcomed Chinese students to study in Sweden.

After that, Mr. Olof Somell, the curator of Nobel Museum, made his speech named “Spark of Innovation”, sharing his views with the audience on “different arguments about innovation, things can be learnt from Nobel Prize winners”, etc.

Mr. Liu Weichen, a PKU alumnus who had also once studied Stockholm University, shared his studying experience Sweden and his thoughts over vocational selection.

Besides speeches and exhibition, several mini exhibitions of universities were also arranged to give students an opportunity to communicate more deeply with representatives of Swedish university. At the same time, it was also a helpful way for PKU students to get information such as suggestions on further studies or employment channels in Sweden from PKU alumni who had studied in Sweden.
