President of the University of Chile visits PKU

Peking University, Nov.11, 2013: Vi?ctor Luis Pe?rez Vera, President of the University of Chile visited PKU on October 31st.

 

PKU President Wang Enge said in his welcoming speech that PKU, with its broad academic scope and rich research resources, expected to have regular exchanges and visits with South American universities which are represented by the University of Chile.

 

In the cordial talk, President Vi?ctor expressed his idea to conduct further academic exchanges with PKU. As one of the oldest universities in Chile, the University of Chile has made great achievements in natural sciences including astronomy and social sciences such as sociology, according to the president.

 

He also noted that the priority of higher education is to tap students’ potential and cultivate them. In recent years, the University of Chile has broken the traditional enrolment pattern which solely focused on scores. Aiming at attracting more well-rounded talents, the university provides a second chance for students who are below par during the entrance exam and also breaks the regional limitation of student admission.
