Thai Princess Sirindhorn visits Peking University Health Science Center

Peking University, Apr. 14, 2014: “Princess Sirindhorn is an outstanding envoy of friendship between Chinese and Thai people”, said Professor Ke Yang, executive vice president of PKU and executive vice president of Peking Health Science Center (PUHSC), in her welcome speech for the Princess’ visit to PUHSC.

April 9 of 2014 witnessed the distinguished guest Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn visiting PUHSC as well as Peking University Third Hospital (PUTH).

Professor Ke firstly welcomed the princess as a representative of PKU and PUHSC. She briefly introduced the cooperation between PUHSC and the Faculty of Medicine of Chulalongkorn University as well as Mahidol University in Thailand to the Princess.

“Apart from an outstanding alumnus of PKU, Princess Sirindorn is also the first Thai royal member visiting China”, Professor Ke highly praised Princess Sirindhorn for her constant introduction of Chinese history and culture to Thailand for decades.

The Princess has greatly contributed to the Sino-Thai interaction of technology and culture and enhances the friendship between the two nations.

Later, Fang Weigang, vice director of PUHSC, gave a detailed introduction of the history, framework, scientific research and education of PUHSC. During the speech, Princess Sirindhorn showed great interest in international students’ education. She asked about the detailed conditions of the international students, and especially Thai students’ study and life here in PUHSC. Both sides talked about the cooperation issue of sending Thai students studying in PUHSC.


After the meeting held in PUHSC, Princess Sirindhorn visited PUTH. This was four years after her first visit on April 4th, 2010. Professor Qiao Jie, dean of PUTH, welcomed the princess. He along with others showed the princess around the laboratories and presented some scientific achievements to her.


Professor Qiao and Princess Sirindhorn interchanged their gifts.

Background info: Thai Princess Sirindhorn has deep feelings for China and Chinese people and enjoys a good reputation in China. She has a very good background of knowledge of Chinese language and culture. Princess Sirindhorn has paid many visits to China and helps advance the relationship between Chinese and Thai people.
