Peking University, Beijing, Apr. 16, 2009: As the result of the 2009 Mathematical Contest in Modeling (MCM) & Interdisciplinary Contest in Modeling (ICM) came out, ten teams from Peking University have won the Meritorious Winner (First Prize), and another eight won the Honorable Mention (Second Prize).
The MCM/ICM Contest is an international mathematical contest for the undergraduate, which is jointly sponsored by the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences, the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics, the Mathematical Association of America, and National Security Agency. These two contests were respectively started in 1985 and 1999, which is held in February every year, and lasted four days. There are 1675 teams from different parts of the world attending the 2009 MCM, and 374 teams taking part in the 2009 ICM.
The PKU contest teams attended the MCM/ICM Contest have been supported by PKU Office of Educational Administration and School of Mathematical Sciences, and organized by Chinese Youth League PKU Committee and PKU Students’ Extracurricular Activities Guiding Center. The Chinese Youth League Committees of PKU School of Mathematical Sciences, Physics School, School of Electronics Engineering and Computer Science, Guanghua School of Management, and Yuanpei College also provided their supports. The “Jiang Zehan Cup” Contest of Mathematical Contest in Modeling & Computer Application in Peking University is about to start as well, and its result will be announced in late May.
