Hao Ping meets with Secretary General of the Association of Pacific Rim Universities

Peking University, Mar. 18, 2019: On the afternoon of March 5, 2019, Christopher Tremewan, secretary general of the Association of Pacific Rim Universities (APRU), visited Peking University. Hao Ping, president of Peking University, met with the guests at Linhuxuan. Vice President Wang Bo also attended the meeting.

The Association of Pacific Rim Universities (APRU) was established in 1997, and its current membership includes 50 high-level research universities in the Pacific Rim countries and regions. The three main themes of activities of APRU are: shaping higher education and scientific research in the Asia-Pacific region, cultivating global leaders in the Asia-Pacific region, and working together to solve the challenges faced by the Asia-Pacific region.
Hao Ping welcomed Christopher Tremewan. He pointed out that Peking University, which has engaged in this association for 22 years since 1997, was one of the founding members of APRU. Utilizing the platform provided by the association, Peking University has participated in important forums such as the Annual Meeting of Presidents and the Annual Meeting of Senior Executives, and actively carried out joint research in the fields of the ageing population, disasters, brain science, and public health. Hao Ping hoped to keep strengthening cooperation with member schools in the field of undergraduate education and to create more opportunities to deepen bilateral exchanges.
Christopher Tremewan expressed his gratitude to Peking University for its long-term support to the association. He pointed out that the alliance was planning the next step to better serve the development of higher education and society in the Asia-Pacific region. He also highlighted the latest development in the fields of artificial intelligence, humanities, and social sciences, and hoped to promote further cooperation with Peking University in these areas.
