Peking University, April 14, 2019: On April 12, 2019, Institute of Foreign Relations of Russia, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, Veniamin Popov, visited Peking University and attended the regional and national international seminars held in Peking University. Chair of PKU Council Qiu Shuiping and PKU Vice President Wang Bo met Popov at Linhuxuan.
Qiu expressed his welcome and gratitude to Popov for attending the seminars, and emphasized the practical significance of regional and national research in the current academic world, especially in the Islamic world. Professor Popov's participation in this conference offered strong support for PKU academic activities. Qiu stressed that China and Russia had maintained close political, economic, and cultural communications as friendly neighbors. In the past year, that several PKU inter-university delegations visiting famous Russian universities such as Moscow State University and St. Petersburg University, promoted the cooperation in higher education and the development of related disciplines between the two countries.

Popov thanked the Institute of Regional and National Studies of Peking University for the invitation. Pointing out that China's rapid development provided a unique approach for the world development facing changes, he stressed that it was of great significance to deepen communication and cooperation between the two countries and to promote mutual trust and understanding among the youth especially. In cooperation with professors of Peking University, he believed that his visit to Peking University would further promote the mutual understanding between him and Chinese academia as well as young students. Popov hoped that in the future, he would publish books on regional and national studies annually in better cooperation with Peking University.
During the talks, the two sides had in-depth discussions on China-Russia relations and how to further promote the friendly relations and cooperation between Peking University and Russian universities.
