Peking University, April 26, 2019: Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen visited Peking University on April 25, during his stay in Beijing for the Second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation. During his visit, Hun Sen received the title of “Honorary Professor of International Relations” from Peking University and delivered a speech to the audience.

In the beginning, Peking University President Hao Ping warmly welcomed Hun Sen, calling him “an old friend of Chinese people” in his speech. Professor Hao gave a brief introduction to the history of Cambodian studies at Peking University, congratulated Hun Sen on the development of Cambodia and expressed wishes for future cooperation and communication.

Hun Sen thanked the university for awarding him the title and for its professional studies on foreign relations of the Kingdom of Cambodia. He stated that Cambodia has become an active participant in regional and global issues with an annual GDP growth rate of 7.7% since 1998. While celebrating the economic achievement Cambodia has made, Hun Sen said that the relations between China and Cambodia has reached its best with a long history of friendship and cooperation. Hun Sen added that 2018 marked the 60th anniversary of the establishment of the foreign relations between China and Cambodia, so he called for more cooperation and communication with China in the future under the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative.

After the speech, Hun Sen and Tian Xuejun, vice minister of Education, jointly inaugurated the PKU Research Center for Cambodian Studies.
