Peking University, July 2, 2019: From June 15 to 22, Peking University President Hao Ping visited universities and research institutions in Germany and Belgium, as well as Education, Youth, Sport and Culture of European Commission.
On June 17, President Hao met with Freie Universität Berlin President Günter M. Ziegler. They renewed the agreement on exchange programs, hoping to advance bilateral cooperation through a wide range of projects, including the joint postdoctoral program, strategic partnership fund, and other projects related to area studies, Chinese studies, environment and sustainable development.

In the afternoon, Hao came to Humboldt University of Berlin, and met with his counterpart Sabine Kunst. Hao was well-informed of the development of Humboldt University of Berlin after exchanging views with Kunst. The two sides also discussed areas of common interest, such as philosophy, artificial intelligence, area studies, and summer school programs.

On June 18, Hao paid a visit to Max Planck Society and called on its President Martin Stratmann. Hao said that the bond between Peking University and Max Planck Society would be conducive to promoting close cooperation in the field of scientific research and creating a high-quality platform for China and Germany to cultivate international research talents. The two sides would establish the PKU-MPS joint research center through the establishment of the seed fund for joint research, and carry out more practical cooperation in life science, artificial intelligence, climate research and other disciplines based on the National Science and Technology Innovation Center.

Afterwards, Hao visited the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (LMU) and met with its President Bernd Huber, and exchanged ideas on bilateral cooperation. Hao pointed out that the University has always been an important partner of Peking University, and the two sides also have cooperation in the fields of psychology, philosophy and medical summer school. Huber said that the University would plan to launch a “seed fund” to support cooperation and development in relevant fields with strategic partners like Peking University.

On June 20, Hao visited the headquarters of the European Union and met with the European Commissioner for Education Culture, Youth and Sports Tibor Navracsics. Hao said that Peking University would continue to actively participate in various related projects and hoped to further strengthen cooperation between Peking University and European Universities through various platforms, including the European University Union.

On June 21, Hao visited KU Leuven and met with its Vice President Bart Raymaekers and Gerard Govers. As a friendly and cooperative partner, KU Leuven expressed its support for the establishment of an EU research center in partnership with Peking University. The two sides also exchanged views on cooperation in innovation, medicine, philosophy, economy and management.
