China-Indonesia Economic, Trade Exchanges and Cooperation International Forum held at PKU

Peking University, Nov. 28, 2019: The “One Belt and One Road”: China-Indonesia Economic, Trade Exchanges, and Cooperation International Forum, co-organized by the School of Economics at Peking University and Taihe Group Limited, was held from December 20 to 24 at the New World Village Conference Center in Bintan Island, Indonesia. This forum aimed to explore new opportunities for cooperation and deepen people-to-people exchanges between China and Indonesia. Participants included Indonesian government officials and representatives from Chinese companies in Indonesia and Taihe Group.

The forum officially kicked off on November 22. The guests unveiled the plaque of the Overseas Academic Research Center (Southeast Asia) of School of Economics, Peking University.

Sunny Sukardi, CEO of Taihe Group, delivered a welcome speech and expressed his expectation for the center to foster in-depth cooperation between the two countries.

Syamsul Bahrum from the provincial government of Riau Islands appreciated the investment of Chinese enterprises in Indonesia and expressed his willingness to further deepen the bilateral cooperation in the field of culture and education.

Dong Zhiyong, dean of the School of Economics, reviewed China-Indonesia economic, trade exchanges and cooperation in the past decades. Representatives from the School of Economics Chen Yi, Du Liqun, Wang Dashu together with Marolop Nainggolan from Ministry of Trade of Indonesia made keynote speeches, discussing possible paths and benefits of a win-win cooperation, as well as potential risks that need to be avoided from various perspectives.
